Marian Gardiner

Director

Marian has spent 30 years in the field of Economic Development initially within two major Local Authorities then within the Third Sector. Most recently she was Group Operations Director of LESL the most successful deliverer of business and innovation services in Scotland. . Responsible for the management of all of all delivery or operational frontline staff and the effective operations and delivery of £3.5 million of Business support contracts annually, to a diverse group of clients Local Authorities, Scottish Enterprise, Innovate UK and private sector clients. With excellent project management skills developed over a number of years, Marian ensures that contracts are properly resourced, delivered on time, to budget and targets achieved. Marian is Project Director for the current Business Gateway Lanarkshire contract.

As well as a highly developed knowledge of economic development, Marian has contributed to European Advisory groups, acted as a specialist consultant to emerging EU Accession states and to the South African Government and is a member of the Institute of Small Business Affairs and  Economic Development Association She was responsible for the establishment of the Lanarkshire Incubation Centre, which was one of the first in Scotland, designed to accelerate the formation and funding of high growth new businesses where technology represents the major competitive edge.

Marian is an experienced project management practitioner and uses well tested project management and implementation methodologies.  Marian’s project leadership includes the creation and monitoring of a checklist of key deliverables and activities to ensure all key targets and tasks are achieved to deadline and within budget. Marian follows a five point project management methodology which incorporates:

  • Project Initiation
  • Project Planning & Design
  • Execution
  • Monitoring & Controlling
  • Project Closing / Review

Marian is also Director at ICS Ltd responsible for the effective project management and implementation of all contracts and the management of all staff.

  • MSC Local Economic Development, University of Glasgow
  • BSc Hons. Geography, University of Glasgow
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship
