Scottish Microfinance Fund
In December 2016, we launched the Scottish Microfinance Fund (SMF); a fund providing micro loans of up to £25,000 to businesses based in Scotland; even those who may have struggled to gain access to finance before. The fund is capitalised at £6m by three organisations; Start Up Loans Company, European Structural Funds and DSL Business Finance.
The prime objective of the SMF is to create jobs and enterprise in Scotland. By Dec 2018, we will have provided around 360 micro loans to start-up businesses and established companies across the country. Although the fund is still in the early stages, we have already issued 53 loans, totalling £682,643. These loans have created 115 new jobs and maintained 27 jobs in Scotland. ERDF – Western Scotland Regeneration Fund (WSRF) – (2001 – 2007)
The WSRF was set up with monies from local partners, DTI and ERDF. With this fund, our work extended into Dunbartonshire, creating 197 jobs.
In 2004, WSRF was extended to cover Western Scotland with the help of ERDF, DTI, and DSL’s monies along with a loan from Unity Trust Bank. This created 342 new jobs, assisted 359 businesses and created 142 new businesses in Western Scotland.
